By DoD Public AffairsNorthrop Grumman (Sunnyvale, Calif.) was awarded a $61,775,261 multiple award, cost-plus-award-fee contract for the program definition and risk reduction phase of the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) Program on Dec. 10, 1999. This phase of the program will consist of the development of a full-scale, reduced-length, fully integrated prototype EMALS, which will replace the current generation of steam catapults in CVNX aircraft carriers.
Work will be performed in Sunnyvale, Calif. (90%) and Lakehurst, N.J. (10%), and is expected to be completed by September 2003. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured with 38 proposals solicited; seven offers received and two awards were made as a result of this solicitation. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (Lakehurst, N.J.) is the contracting activity for contract # N68335-00-C-0208.
In another contract, General Atomics (San Diego, Calif.) was awarded a $59,938,100 multiple award, cost-plus-award-fee contract for the program definition and risk reduction phase of the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) Program on Dec. 10, 1999.
