Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: THE XM22 ACADA IS AN ADVANCED MAN-PORTABLE, POINT
SAMPLING, CHEMICAL AGENT ALARM SYSTEM BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF ION
MOBILE SPECTROMETRY (IMS) IN WHICH AGENTS ARE SEPARATED AND
IDENTIFIED BY THEIR RELATIVE SPEEDS OF TRAVEL (MOBILITIES) IN AN
ELECTRIC FIELD. THE XM22 ACADA REQUIRES NO LIQUID REAGENTS AND WILL
DETECT AND IDENTIFY ALL STANDARD NERVE, MUSTARD AND LEWISITE AGENTS.
THE XM22 ACADA IS A MULTI-PURPOSE SYSTEM THAT WILL REPLACE THE M8A1
ALARM AS AN AUTOMATIC POINT DETECTOR AND WILL AUGMENT THE CHEMICAL
AGENT MONITOR (CAM) AS A SURVEY INSTRUMENT. IN ADDITION, THE XM22
ACADA WILL PROVIDE AN INTERIOR MONITORING CAPABILITY FOR COLLECTIVE
PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (CPE) ENVIRONMENTS. THE DETECTOR UNIT WITH
BATTERY ASSEMEBLY WILL NOT EXCEED 25 POUNDS IN WEIGHT OR 1 CUBE IN
VOLUME.
B. CAPABILITIES: THE XM22 ACADA WILL MONITOR AND DETECT THE
PRESENCE OF HAZARDOUS AGENTS. IT WILL THEN PROVIDE AN ALARM AND
ESSENTIAL DATA TO THE AFFECTED UNIT. IT WILL MONITOR SPECIFIC SITES
IN THE MOUNTED OR DISMOUNTED ROLES AND MONITOR WITHIN COLLECTIVE
PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (CPE). THE DETECTOR WILL PROVIDE UNIT WARNING
AND HAZARD DATA THROUGH THE MULTIPURPOSE INTEGRATED CHEMICAL
DETECTOR (MICAD) SYSTEM. AS PART OF THE MULTIPURPOSE INTEGRATED
CHEMICAL AGENT DETECTOR (MICAD) SYSTEM, THE DETECTOR WILL MONITOR AND
DETECT THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENT FOR AGENT AFFECTING
VEHICLES WITH CPE, SUCH AS THE ARMORED FAMILY OF VEHICLES (AFV) AND
CPE SHELTERS. ONCE AN AGENT IS DETECTED, THE DETECTOR TRANSMITS DATA
THROUGH THE MICAD SYSTEM WHICH ACTIVATES THE CPE SYSTEMS AND WARNS
REQUIRED UNITS. THE DETECTOR MOUNTED INSIDE THE NBC RECONNAISSANCE
SYSTEM (NBCRS) WILL PROVIDE CONTINUOUS MONITORING, DETECTION,
IDENTIFICATION WARNING AND VERIFICATION CAPABILITES.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE ACADA WILL BE EMPLOYED AS A POINT SAMPLING
ALARM. THE XM22 ACADA WILL BE USEABLE BY SOLDIERS OF ANY MOS WITH
MINIMAL SPECIFIC TRAINING.
