FATE CONTROL STATIONCONCLUSIONS
- Control Stations are very complex and tightly coupled to the aircraft
design. It is recommend that the aircraft design develop further before
selecting a particular ground station for FATE.
- Further study is required before a control station can be adequately
- The final report will contain the results of the survey and analysis
Notes:
Ultimately, until the aircraft design develops further, and the potential missions are agreed upon, and the aircraft operational environment is at least broadly defined, and the C/S environment is specified.... a firm decision on a control station should be deferred.
Once the upcoming aircraft study phase is underway, a goal should be to define the parameters affecting control station design enough to proceed with specifying the control station. This should a be a concurrent and interactive process.
As firmer, and more detailed control station requirements are generated, they should be shared with industry to allow them to adapt and build a control station design that can be seriously evaluated for final selection.
The control station should take less time to develop and test than the vehicle and given that the build phase for both starts at the same time, the control station could be ready for “surrogate UCAV” risk reduction testing before being required to control the real UCAV.
