Based on our “brainstorming” requirements, a questionnaire to determine what was available from industry was generated. It lists everything we thought might be needed on a C/S at the time, and asks for an assessment of the currently available control station in relation to the requirements. They were asked to rate the control stations capabilities according to a 0 - 9 scale. 0 = Capability does not exist, 1 = Capability can be added with software and /or hardware modifications, 3 = Capability exists, but needs modification, and 9 = Capability presently meets or exceeds requirements. The turn around time for this was short and we stated that respondents will get to participate in later activities and studies. A cost WAG was requested on their current “as it exists today” C/S. We also asked for comments on the questionnaire, and for them to provide any technical or marketing data they wish. Phone conversations with the industry also emphasized that this is conceptual at this point and will continue to develop for at least another year. This questionnaire was a first look at C/S requirements.
