The original task was to define the control station for the vehicle proposed in the FATE program; which we did. However, as this phase of the progressed it began to look as if the nature of the program woul change from an aeronautical demonstrator/evaluator, that was unmanned to save cost, to a Uninhabited Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) technology demonstrator. This was sparked by DARPA. As a result, we were asked to survey existing ground stations, assess attributes required for a UCAV demonstrator control station, and make a recommendation on which control station fit best. As this study progressed, it became evident that selecting a particular control station might be premature. During discussions with Wright Labs, it was determined that a definition of requirements would be a good start in the process of defining a control station.
