AN/URC-109 VLF/LF/MF/HF Radio Communications Set

The Very Low Frequency/Low Frequency/Medium Frequency/High Frequency Communications (VLF/LF/MF/HF Comms) System is a communication system that is utilized to transmit and receive tactical, operational, and administrative information in the VLF/LF/MF/HF range (10 KHz - 30 MHz) with the majority of the communications being accomplished in the HF band (2 MHz - 30 MHz). The VLF/LF/MF/HF Communications System, when interfaced with other onboard equipment, supports interrupted continuous wave (ICW), voice, teletypewriter (TTY) and digital data communications, provides full duplex, half duplex and simplex circuit capability and operates in the upper sideband (USB), lower sideband (LSB) and independent sideband (ISB) modes of operation. The VLF/LF/MF/HF Communications system also provides emergency backup for the VHF/UHF and SATCOM systems in the event of failure of those systems. This VLF/LF/MF/HF Communications system consists of the Radio Communications Set AN/URC-109 which is a computer-controlled, integrated, broadband frequency, communication system consisting of transmitters, receivers, multicouplers, antennas and other associated equipment.
