AN/SQQ-30 - Mine Classifying / Detecting Sonar
This variable depth minehunting sonar is the standard installation in the MCM 2-9.
The AN/SQQ-30 (originally designated the Deep Mod AN/SQQ-14) is an improved version
of the SQQ-14. An actual AN/SQQ-14 sonar system was used as the starting point for
each AN/SQQ-30 with various improvements made to the system.

each AN/SQQ-30 with various improvements made to the system.
- A long tow cable/conductor replaced the articulated strut to enable greater search depths.
- An electronically stabilized sonar dome is used instead of the tension stress of the articulated
strut used in the MSO SQQ-14, with a compass installed in the sonar dome to provide a reference.
- An increased vertical coverage capability is added to the sonar transducer.
- The sonar dome is strengthened to withstand greater depths.
- The detection and classification range capabilities remain essentially the same as in the SQQ-14.
The OK-520/SQQ deploy/recovery winch is also used with the AN/SQQ-32. The
AN/SQQ-32 sonar will be backfitted into MCM 2-9 in future availabilities.
