AN/SPQ-12(V) Radar Displays and Distribution System
(RADDS)
The Radar Display and Distribution System (RADDS) AN/SPQ-12 is a general-purpose, radar display group that provides for the correlation, distribution and displaying of tactical data on a real-time basis. Appropriate signals from the ship's radars and navigation equipment are multiplexed, by a converter, into a single digital data (RADDS) stream and provided to the switchboard. The RADDS displays are used to select and display any of the RADDS streams from the switchboard. The AN/SPQ-12 assists command personnel in making tactical and navigational decisions by effectively and accurately integrating, processing and centrally displaying tactical data.
The AN/SPQ-12(V) RADDS interfaces with most Navy radars and ship navigational sensors. The analog synchro signals from these interfaces are fed into the data converter which multiplexes the radar triggers, antenna bearing, ship’s heading and speed data into a single 64-bit RADDS digital data stream. The converter transmits the RADDS digital data stream to the switchboard. The switchboard provides selection of radar and identification friend or foe (IFF) signals from one to 16 input sensors and the selection of up to 16 RADDS data stream
inputs from the converters. The switchboard then distributes radar data to as many as 32 separate displays.
