 1.      HAZARD AVOIDANCE.  THIS CLASS ADVISORY PROVIDES ADDITIONAL             

 GUIDANCE FOR PREVENTING RADIATION HAZARDS (RADHAZ) TO PERSONNEL                

 DURING CG-47 CLASS SHIP OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE.  REFERENCE A               

 STATED THAT HIGH POWER OPERATION OF THE AN/SPY-1A RADAR IN PORT                

 SHALL BE IN MAINTENANCE MODE UNDER LOCAL CONTROL ONLY.  REFERENCE              

 B REPORTED THAT CERTAIN TESTS COULD NOT BE ACCOMPLISHED USING THAT             

 GUIDANCE AND RECOMMENDED ALTERNATE PROCEDURES FOR THOSE TESTS.                 

 REFERENCES C AND D APPROVED THE ALTERNATE PROCEDURES FOR BASE-                 

 LINE ONE COMPUTER PROGRAMS WITH EIGHT CELL MANUAL PATCH.  PER                  

 REFERENCE E EIGHT CELL PATCH PERMANENTLY INCORPORATED IN USS                   

 TICONDEROGA (CG-47) PROGRAMS.  PERMANENT FIX WILL BE AVAILABLE TO              

 ALL CG-47 CLASS SHIPS NOT LATER THAN MID JUNE AS PART OF BASELINE 1.1          

 COMPUTER PROGRAM MAINTENANCE UPDATE.                                           

                                                                                

 2.      PARAGRAPH 5A OF REFERENCE A IS REVISED AS FOLLOWS TO INCORPO-          

 RATE THE ALTERNATE PROCEDURES DISCUSSED ABOVE.                                 

         A.      AN/SPY-1A.  HIGH POWER OPERATION SHALL BE IN MAINTENANCE       

 MODE UNDER LOCAL CONTROL EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWING TESTS:                       

                 (1)     MIP 55AEGO2/3, MRC 45 FFZVN D-1 (EII 1.12.X.7.9Y, X=1-4

 TRANSMITTER PHASE AND POWER TESTS OF THE FOUR ARRAYS.                          

                 (2)     EII 1.12.Y.7.22, OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE TEST MTI WAVE-

 FORM PHASE STABILITY TEST (Y=1,3).                                             

                 (3)     EII 1.12.1.7.3Z AND 1.12.3.7.3Z, MISSILE UPLINK MONITOR

 (Z=1,3, 5,7, 9).                                                               

 THESE TESTS MAY BE CONDUCTED IN PORT WITH BASELINE ONE COMPUTER                

 PROGRAMS USING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE.  PRIOR TO INITIALIZATION AT            

 THE OPERATIONAL READINESS TEST SYSTEM (ORTS) CONSOLE PERFORM THE               

 FOLLOWING:                                                                     

                 (1)     AT THE RADAR SYSTEM CONTROLLER (RSC) CONSOLE IN BASE-  

 LINE CONTROL:                                                                  

                         (A)     PLACE SEARCH ELEVATION TO ZERO DEGREES.        

                         (B)     HORIZON SEARCH OFF.                            

                         (C)     SEARCH MODE PASSIVE.                           

                         (D)     VERIFY NO SECTOR OR RADIATION ZONES.           

                 (2)     AT THE AN/SPY-1A AN/UYK-7 COMPUTER, POSITION 7 STOP TO 

 THE UP POSITION ON BOTH BAY 3 AND 4.  EII 1.12.1.7.22 AND 1.12.3.7.22,         

 OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE TEST MTI WAVEFORM PHASE STABILITY TEST,                

 SHALL BE CONDUCTED ONLY WITH BASELINE 1 COMPUTER PROGRAM WITH                  

 EIGHT CELL MANUAL PATCH.  AFTER THE BASELINE 1.1 COMPUTER PROGRAM              

 IS INSTALLED THE EIGHT CELL MANUAL PATCH WILL NOT BE REQUIRED.                 

 AN/SPY-1A OPERATION BOTH IN MAINTENANCE MODE UNDER LOCAL CONTROL               

 AND USING THE ABOVE PROCEDURE PLACES THE BEAM AT THE ZENITH                    

 POSITION.  NESTED SHIPS SHOULD BE ADVISED TO KEEP PERSONNEL MORE               

 THAN 45 FEET FROM ARRAY FACES AND BELOW LEVELS EQUIVALENT TO 23                

 FEET ABOVE ARRAY (APPROXIMATELY TOP OF FORWARD DIRECTORS AND TOP               

 OF NUMBER 3 DIRECTOR AFT).  PERSONNEL MUST BE WARNED NOT TO LEAN               

 OVER RAILS ABOVE THE ARRAY FACES.  THE HELICOPTER LIGHTING                     

 MAINTENANCE PLATFORM ALLOWS PERSONNEL ACCESS TO A RADHAZ ZONE                  

 DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE AFT ARRAY FACE.  THE ACCESS IS NORMALLY               

 BARRICADED, BUT STRINGENT PROCEDURAL CONTROLS MUST BE                          

 IMPLEMENTED TO PREVENT PERSONNEL FROM INADVERTENTLY ACCESSING                  

 THE AREA WHEN THE RADAR IS ACTIVE.  IN LOW POWER OPERATION, THE MAIN           

 BEAM MINIMUM SAFE DISTANCE IS 30 FEET (50 FEET USING ANSI CRITERIA).
