CG-47 CLASS ADVISORY NO. 05-85A (ADDENDUM ONE) RADHAZ/HERO GUIDANCE COMNAVSEASYSCOM WASHINGTON DC MSG 102044Z JUN 85 REF: A. COMNAVSEASYSCOM WASHINGTON DC 242232Z JAN 85 B. USS TICONDEROGA 151841Z MAR 85 C. COMNAVSEASYSCOM WASHINGTON DC 191530Z MAR 85 D. COMNAVSEASYSCOM WASHINGTON DC 212040Z MAR 85 E. USS TICONDEROGA 230137Z APR 85 1. HAZARD AVOIDANCE. THIS CLASS ADVISORY PROVIDES ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE FOR PREVENTING RADIATION HAZARDS (RADHAZ) TO PERSONNEL DURING CG-47 CLASS SHIP OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE. REFERENCE A STATED THAT HIGH POWER OPERATION OF THE AN/SPY-1A RADAR IN PORT SHALL BE IN MAINTENANCE MODE UNDER LOCAL CONTROL ONLY. REFERENCE B REPORTED THAT CERTAIN TESTS COULD NOT BE ACCOMPLISHED USING THAT GUIDANCE AND RECOMMENDED ALTERNATE PROCEDURES FOR THOSE TESTS. REFERENCES C AND D APPROVED THE ALTERNATE PROCEDURES FOR BASE- LINE ONE COMPUTER PROGRAMS WITH EIGHT CELL MANUAL PATCH. PER REFERENCE E EIGHT CELL PATCH PERMANENTLY INCORPORATED IN USS TICONDEROGA (CG-47) PROGRAMS. PERMANENT FIX WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ALL CG-47 CLASS SHIPS NOT LATER THAN MID JUNE AS PART OF BASELINE 1.1 COMPUTER PROGRAM MAINTENANCE UPDATE. 2. PARAGRAPH 5A OF REFERENCE A IS REVISED AS FOLLOWS TO INCORPO- RATE THE ALTERNATE PROCEDURES DISCUSSED ABOVE. A. AN/SPY-1A. HIGH POWER OPERATION SHALL BE IN MAINTENANCE MODE UNDER LOCAL CONTROL EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWING TESTS: (1) MIP 55AEGO2/3, MRC 45 FFZVN D-1 (EII 1.12.X.7.9Y, X=1-4 TRANSMITTER PHASE AND POWER TESTS OF THE FOUR ARRAYS. (2) EII 1.12.Y.7.22, OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE TEST MTI WAVE- FORM PHASE STABILITY TEST (Y=1,3). (3) EII 1.12.1.7.3Z AND 1.12.3.7.3Z, MISSILE UPLINK MONITOR (Z=1,3, 5,7, 9). THESE TESTS MAY BE CONDUCTED IN PORT WITH BASELINE ONE COMPUTER PROGRAMS USING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE. PRIOR TO INITIALIZATION AT THE OPERATIONAL READINESS TEST SYSTEM (ORTS) CONSOLE PERFORM THE FOLLOWING: (1) AT THE RADAR SYSTEM CONTROLLER (RSC) CONSOLE IN BASE- LINE CONTROL: (A) PLACE SEARCH ELEVATION TO ZERO DEGREES. (B) HORIZON SEARCH OFF. (C) SEARCH MODE PASSIVE. (D) VERIFY NO SECTOR OR RADIATION ZONES. (2) AT THE AN/SPY-1A AN/UYK-7 COMPUTER, POSITION 7 STOP TO THE UP POSITION ON BOTH BAY 3 AND 4. EII 1.12.1.7.22 AND 1.12.3.7.22, OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE TEST MTI WAVEFORM PHASE STABILITY TEST, SHALL BE CONDUCTED ONLY WITH BASELINE 1 COMPUTER PROGRAM WITH EIGHT CELL MANUAL PATCH. AFTER THE BASELINE 1.1 COMPUTER PROGRAM IS INSTALLED THE EIGHT CELL MANUAL PATCH WILL NOT BE REQUIRED. AN/SPY-1A OPERATION BOTH IN MAINTENANCE MODE UNDER LOCAL CONTROL AND USING THE ABOVE PROCEDURE PLACES THE BEAM AT THE ZENITH POSITION. NESTED SHIPS SHOULD BE ADVISED TO KEEP PERSONNEL MORE THAN 45 FEET FROM ARRAY FACES AND BELOW LEVELS EQUIVALENT TO 23 FEET ABOVE ARRAY (APPROXIMATELY TOP OF FORWARD DIRECTORS AND TOP OF NUMBER 3 DIRECTOR AFT). PERSONNEL MUST BE WARNED NOT TO LEAN OVER RAILS ABOVE THE ARRAY FACES. THE HELICOPTER LIGHTING MAINTENANCE PLATFORM ALLOWS PERSONNEL ACCESS TO A RADHAZ ZONE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE AFT ARRAY FACE. THE ACCESS IS NORMALLY BARRICADED, BUT STRINGENT PROCEDURAL CONTROLS MUST BE IMPLEMENTED TO PREVENT PERSONNEL FROM INADVERTENTLY ACCESSING THE AREA WHEN THE RADAR IS ACTIVE. IN LOW POWER OPERATION, THE MAIN BEAM MINIMUM SAFE DISTANCE IS 30 FEET (50 FEET USING ANSI CRITERIA).
