NAVEUR NEWS SERVICE (03-99)// 26 January 1999 HEADLINE: Enterprise Battle Group Arrives in Adriatic Sea By USS Enterprise Public Affairs ON BOARD USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) - The aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) and Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW 3), along with the cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64), sailed into the Adriatic Sea Jan. 20, joining USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) for scheduled Team Enterprise familiarization operations in the region. The ship and air wing conducted routine flight operations as they arrived on station. The Enterprise Battle Group now represents the premier military team in the region, bringing self-sustainment, flexibility, and mobility to the NATO table. In addition to the air wing's 72 aircraft, the battle group also possesses a potent land attack capability demonstrated during operation Desert Fox. Enterprise was last in the Adriatic Sea in September 1996, when the ship and CVW 17 were supporting operation Joint Endeavor and Bosnian national elections. The majority of the Enterprise Battle Group began their current deployment in November, spending nearly a month supporting operation Southern Watch and spearheading Desert Fox in the Arabian Gulf before returning to the Mediterranean in early January. Assigned to the U.S. Sixth Fleet, Team Enterprise is scheduled to participate in several exercises during their stay in the Mediterranean. -USN-
