Abstract:
The USAF spent decades fighting to be an independent force.
Ironically, 50 years later all forces are trying to synergistically
combine capabilities in joint operations. The submarine force was
"The Silent Service" for decades, shrouded in secrecy from everyone
who was not a submariner. Now we must 'speak up and be heard.' The
Submarine Force must take steps now to ensure its dominance in future
Joint Operations.
My paper will introduce traditional "Blue Water" capabilities,
concentrate on littoral capabilities of the submarine--how the submarine
can support the joint force commander--and discuss future
capabilities. I will also address what the submarine force must do to
ensure its dominance in future joint operations.
My research methodology will include researching published books,
periodicals, and various submarine force Web sites.
