A. DESCRIPTION: THE DISPENSER, MINE, XM138 (FLIPPER) IS A
LIGHTWEIGHT MINE LAYING DEVICE USED TO AUGMENT THE GEMMS, MOUNTED
ON HOST VEHICLE WITH CLAMP ASSEMBLY. TWO SOLDIERS CAN INSTALL
DISPENSER IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES.
B. CAPABILITIES: WHEN M74 ANTIPERSONNEL AND M75 ANTI-TANK
MINES ARE PLACED INTO LAUNCHER, THEY ARE GIVEN ARMING SIGNAL AND
SCATTERED FROM MOVING VEHICLE AT A RATE OF ABOUT ONE PER TEN
SECONDS.
C. EMPLOYMENT: TO SUPPLEMENT THE M128 GROUND VEHICLE
DISPENSER IN ORDER TO ENSURE CONTINUOUS MINE OPERATIONS WHEN THE
XM128 IS NOT AVAILABLE.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE:
(1) ONE PER COMBAT ENGINEER PLATOON, LIGHT INFANTRY
DIVISION.
(2) ONE PER COMBAT ENGINEER COMPANY, AIRBORNE AND
AIR ASSUALT DIVISIONAL BATTALIONS.
(3) TWO PER COMBAT ENGINEER COMPANY, CORPS ABN/LT BN.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: SUPPLIED BY HOST VEHICLE 28-V
SYSTEM.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: N/A.
