A. DESCRIPTION: THE TRAINER, SUBCALIBER 120MM MORTAR CONSISTS OF AN 81MM MORTAR CANNON TUBE, ONE FILLER SECTION AND SLEEVE. IT IS DESIGNED TO BE INSTALLED IN THE 120MM MORTAR TUBE. THIS DEVICE IS STORED IN A STORAGE CONTAINER THAT CONTAINS VARIOUS ISSUE ITEMS REQUIRED TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN THE INSERT. B. CAPABILITIES: THE SUBCALIBER TRAINING DEVICE WILL BE CAPABLE OF FIRING ALL 81MM MORTAR AMMUNITION (INCLUDES TRAINING AMMUNITION). 81MM MORTAR CAPABILITIES ARE DEFINED IN BOIP I019AA. BECAUSE OF THIS CAPABILITY, PHYSICAL SECURITY REQUIREMENTS MUST BE ADHERED TO. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE SUBCALIBER TRAINING DEVICE WILL BE EMPLOYED THROUGHOUT THE ACTIVE AND RESERVE COMPONENTS AND IN THE RESIDENT TRAINING BASE. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: ONE SUBCALIBER TRAINING DEVICE WILL BE ISSUED FOR EACH 120MM MORTAR SYSTEM (LIN M68405). E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: THERE ARE NO POWER REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS TRAINING DEVICE. F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: THIS DEVICE IN ITS STORAGE CONTAINER WILL BE TRANSPORTED BY THE SAME MEANS AS THE 120MM MORTAR SYSTEM TO WHICH IT IS ASSIGNED OR BEING USED IN. THE DEVICE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 100 POUNDS. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: (1) OPERATOR: (A) CREW SIZE/AOC/MOS: THE FOUR OR FIVE MAN CREW AS PER BOIP I060AA (M1064 HEAVY MORTAR CARRIER) AND I031AB (120MM MORTAR). INDIRECT FIRE INFANTRYMAN (11C). (B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): THERE ARE NO SIGNIFICANT TRAINING IMPACTS. (2) MAINTAINERS: (A) UNIT LEVEL MAINTENANCE: PERFORMED BY UNIT ARMORER (92Y) AND INDIRECT FIRE INFANTRYMAN (11C). (B) DS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: PERFORMED BY SMALL ARMS REPAIRER (45B).
