Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: THE INFANTRY FIGHTING VEHICLE (IFV) IS A
FULLY TRACKED, LIGHTLY-ARMORED VEHICLE WITH A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 41
MPH AND A SWIMMING CAPABILITY.
B. CAPABILITIES: THE IFV WILL PROVIDE CROSS-COUNTRY
MOBILITY, VEHICULAR-MOUNTED FIREPOWER AND COMMUNICATION, AND
PROTECTION TO THE MECHANIZED INFANTRY SQUAD IN BOTH MOUNTED AND
DISMOUNTED COMBAT. THE IFV WILL BE PRIMARILY AN OFFENSIVE
WEAPONS SYSTEM THAT WILL ALLOW THE MECH INFANTRY THE ALTERNATIVE
OF FIGHTING FROM A MOVING VEHICLE OR ON FOOT WITH THE VEHICLE IN
SUPPORT.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE IFV WILL BE EMPLOYED AS A TRANSPORT
VEHICLE AND A FIGHTING VEHICLE FOR THE MECHANIZED INFANTRY. IT
MAY OPERATE WITH THE MAIN BATTLE TANK AND/OR OTHER COMBAT
VEHICLES AS A COMBINED ARMS TEAM.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE: THE IFV WILL BE ISSUED AS A ONE-FOR-ONE
REPLACEMENT FOR M113'S USED IN COMMAND/CONTROL ROLES AND AS SQUAD
CARRIERS IN MECH INFANTRY BATTALIONS.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: NONE.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: 60-TON OR LARGER TRAILER,
C141 OR LARGER AIRCRAFT.
G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
(1) OPERATOR:
(A) CREW SIZE/MOS: NINE-MAN SQUAD/A RECOMMENDATION
FOR A NEW MOS, 11M (MECHANIZED INFANTRY), IS CONTAINED IN THE
QQPRI. UPON APPROVAL, MOS 11B WILL BE CHANGED TO 11M.
(B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): DRIVER; MOS
11M, AS REQUIRED FOR ISSUE OF GOVERNMENT OPERATORS PERMIT IAW AR
600-55. FAMILIARIZATION FOR ALL OTHER 11M.
(2) MAINTAINERS:
(A) UNIT-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 45T AND 63T.
(B) IDS/IGS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 27E, 31V, 41C,
44B, 45B, 45K, AND 63H.
H. SPECIAL NOTES: AMMUNITION TRUCK REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IFV
WERE CALCULATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:
(1) THE BASIC LOAD FOR EACH IFV IS:
(A) 25MM - 900 RDS ON-BOARD, 500 RDS BULK LOADED.
(B) 7.62MM (COAX MG) - 2200 RDS ON-BOARD, 1070 RDS
BULK LOADED.
(C) 7.62MM (M60 MG) - 2200 RDS ON-BOARD, 1200 RDS
BULK LOADED.
(D) 5.56MM - 2160 RDS ON-BOARD, 1080 RDS BULK LOADED.
(E) TOW - 7 RDS ON-BOARD, 6 RDS BULK LOADED.
(F) LAW - 3 RDS ON-BOARD.
(2) BULK LOADED AMMO WILL BE PALLETIZED WHEN RECEIVED
FROM THE ASP/ATP AS FOLLOWS:
(A) 25MM - 2000 RDS.
(B) 7.62MM - 38,400 RDS.
(C) TOW - 12 RDS.
(3) THE 10-TON TRUCK WILL ACCOMMODATE 4 PALLETS OF EACH
TYPE AMMO. THE 5-TON TRUCK WILL ACCOMMODATE 3 PALLETS OF EACH
TYPE AMMO AND THE 1 1/2-TON TRAILER WILL ACCOMMODATE 1 PALLET OF
EACH TYPE AMMO. ADDITIONAL TRUCK REQUIREMENTS IN THIS BOIP ARE
BASED ONLY ON 25MM, 7.62MM COAX MG, AND TOW AMMUNITION
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IFV.
