Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: THE NBC RECON SYSTEM (NBCRS) IS A HIGHLY MOBILE,
ARMORED, WHEELED VEHICLE. IT IS 23'9" LONG, 9'8", AND 8.0' HIGH. IT
WEIGHS 18.7 TONS (COMBAT LOADED) AND HAS A GROUND CLEARANCE OF 17.1".
THE ENGINE IS A V-8 DIESEL AND HAS A 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
THE NBCRS IS 6X6 (4 WHEEL STEERED) WITH A MAX ROAD SPEED OF 65 MPH.
THE CHASSIS OF THE XM93 & THE XM93E1 ARE IDENTICAL. THE XM93E1 IS
BEING DEVELOPED UNDER A SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PHASE (SIP) TO UPGRADE THE
XM93 (FOX) NBCRS TO MEET ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE APPROVED
REVISED REQUIRED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY (ROC) DTD 22 FEB 91 AND
REDUCE THE CREW SIZE TO THREE. THE XM93E1 WILL BE A FULLY INTEGRATED
NBC DETECTION, WARNING AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. NBCRS HAS THE
CAPABILITY TO DETECT CHEMICAL CONTAMINATION IN ITS IMMEDIATE AREA
THROUGH POINT DETECTION, AND AT A DISTANCE THROUGH THE USE OF A
STAND-OFF DETECTOR. IT AUTOMATICALLY INTEGRATES CONTAMINATION
INFORMATION FROM SENSORS WITH INPUT FROM ON-BOARD NAVIGATION AND
METEOROLOGICAL SYSTEMS AND AUTOMATICALLY TRANSMITS DIGITAL NBC
WARNING MESSAGES THROUGH THE MANEUVER CONTROL SYSTEM (MCS).

B. CAPABILITIES: THE XM93E1 WILL DETECT, IDENTIFY AND MARK AREAS
OF NBC CONTAMINATION; COLLECT AND STORE SOIL, WATER AND VEGETATION
SAMPLES FOR LATER ANALYSIS, AND TRANSMIT NBC INFORMATION TO OTHER
NBCRS VEHICLES AND TO AREA COMMANDERS.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE NBCRS WILL BE UTILIZED BY NBC RECON ELEMENTS
OF CHEMICAL PROPONENT TOES WITH RESPONSIBILITY FOR PERFORMING NBC
RECONNAISSANCE MISSIONS. THE XM93E1 WILL BE EMPLOYED WITHIN THE
ELEMENTS CONSISTENT WITH CURRENT SITUATION, COMMANDERS GUIDANCE AND
MISSION REQUIREMENTS.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE:
(1) ONE(1) PER NBC RECONNAISSANCE TEAM IN THE CHEMICAL
COMPANY, HEAVY DIVISION, AND ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT.
(2) ONE(1) PER NBC RECONNAISSANCE TEAM IN THE CHEMICAL RECON
COMPANY, CORPS.
(3) ONE(1) PER NBC RECONNAISSANCE DETACHMENT, LA.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: NONE.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: THE XM93E1 CAN BE TRANSPORTED
C5A AIRCRAFT; WATER TRANSPORTABLE BY LACV-30 OR ALL LARGER WATER
VESSELS; AND RAIL TRANSPORTABLE.

(1) OPERATOR - PERFORM PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKS
AND SERVICES (PMCS).
(2) UNIT LEVEL - PERFORM TROUBLESHOOTING; REMOVE AND
REPLACE LINE REPLACEABLE UNITS (LRU'S).
(3) DIRECT/GENERAL (DS/GS) SUPPORT LEVEL - PERFORM
TROUBLESHOOTING; REPLACE OR REPAIR SHOP REPLACEABLE UNITS (SRU'S).
