Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: THE PROTECTIVE MASK, CHEMICAL/BIOLOGICAL, XM40,
CONSISTS OF A FACEBLANK WITH AN INTURNED PERIPHERY AND TWO RIGID
LENSES MECHANICALLY ATTACHED TO THE FACEPIECE. ALSO ATTACHED TO
THE FACEPIECE ARE A SINGLE CANISTER, FRONT VOICEMITTER, SIDE
VOICEMITTER, EXHALATION VALVE ASSEMBLY, DRINK TUBE, NOSECUP
ASSEMBLY, INLET VALVE ASSEMBLY, HEADHARNESS, HOOD, AND LENS
OUTSERTS. THE CANISTER IS THE AIR-FILTERING MEDIUM AND CAN BE
MOUNTED ON EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE OF THE FACEPIECE. THE
CANISTER CAN BE INTERCHANGED WITH PROTECTIVE CANISTERS USED BY
NATO COUNTRIES.
B. CAPABILITIES: THE PROTECTIVE MASK WILL PROTECT THE FACE,
EYES, AND RESPIRATORY TRACT AGAINST FIELD CONCENTRATIONS OF ALL
CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL AGENTS IN VAPOR OR AEROSOL FORM. THE
FRONT VOICEMITTER IS PRIMARILY USED FOR DIRECT ORAL
COMMUNICATIONS. THE SIDE VOICEMITTER IS USED FOR COMMUNICATIONS
WITH TELEPHONE SYSTEMS. THE CARRIER WILL PROVIDE SPACE FOR
STORAGE OF THE MASK AND AUTHORIZED ACCESSORIES. THE REMOVABLE
HOOD WILL PROVIDE HEAD, NECK, AND MASK FACEBLANK PROTECTION
AGAINST LIQUID CHEMICAL AGENTS.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE XM-40 PROTECTIVE MASK WILL BE EMPLOYED
IN BOTH GARRISON AND FIELD ENVIRONMENTS BY ALL AUTHORIZED
PERSONNEL IAW THE BASIS OF ISSUE FOR PROTECTION AGAINST CHEMICAL
AND BIOLOGICAL AGENTS IN VAPOR OR AEROSOL FORM AND CHEMICAL
AGENTS IN LIQUID FORM.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE:
(1) ONE PER AUTHORIZED INDIVIDUAL IN TOE/MTOE UNITS,
EXCEPT THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHOSE DUTIES REQUIRE THE USE OF Z41702
OR Z41704.
(2) ONE PER AUTHORIZED INDIVIDUAL IN TDA/JTA ACTIVITIES
AS REQUIRED FOR PERFORMANCE OF ASSIGNED MISSION AND/OR ESSENTIAL
TRAINING, EXCEPT THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHOSE DUTIES REQUIRE THE USE
OF Z71402 OR Z41404.
(3) ONE PER STUDENT/TRAINEE ASSIGNED/ATTACHED TO TDA
UNITS IN SUFFICIENT QUANTITY TO SUPPORT NBC TRAINING; NOT TO
EXCEED ONE PER INDIVIDUAL.
(4) ONE PER INDIVIDUAL USING COVERALLS (F33220) AND
HOOD GAS MASK (K45398) OR ANY INDIVIDUAL REQUIRING TOXICOLOGICAL
AGENT PROTECTION.
(5) ONE PER INDIVIDUAL UNDERGOING TRAINING AT ROTC SUMMER
CAMP.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: NONE.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: NONE.
G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
(1) OPERATOR:
(A) CREW SIZE/MOS: ONE OPERATOR, MOS NON-SPECIFIC.
(B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): FIELDING OF
THE XM-40 PROTECTIVE MASK WILL NOT CREATE A TRAINING IMPACT FOR
ANY MOS.
(2) MAINTAINERS:
(A) UNIT-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: USER/OPERATOR.
(B) IDS/GS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: NONE.
(C) UNIT MAINTENANCE WILL BE PERFORMED UNDER THE
SUPERVISION OF THE NBC SPECIALIST (MOS 54B) OR THE DESIGNATED
UNIT NBC NCO.
