Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: THE RADIAC SET, AN/PDR-75, CONSISTS OF THE
COMPUTER INDICATOR: CP-696/PDR-75 (READER), THE CY-8420/PDR-75
(CARRYING CASE), A TWO-PIECE BATTERY BOX, AND THREE POWER CABLES.
B. CAPABILITY: THE AN/PDR-75 RADIAC SET WILL BE USED TO
READ AND DISPLAY THE ACCUMULATED DOSE OF GAMMA AND NEUTRON
RADIATION RECORDED ON THE DETECTOR (DT-236/PDR-75). THE RANGE OF
THE SYSTEM IS ONE TO 1,000 CENTIGRAYS. THE AN/PDR-75 CAN READ
AND DISPLAY 60 OR MORE READINGS PER HOUR.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE AN/PDR-75 WILL PROVIDE COMMANDERS AND
MEDICAL PERSONNEL AN INDICATION OF THE TOTAL GAMMA AND NEUTRON
DOSE TO WHICH AN INDIVIDUAL HAS BEEN EXPOSED.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE:
(1) ONE PER COMPANY-SIZED UNIT.
(2) ONE PER BATTERY OR DETACHMENT THAT OPERATES
INDEPENDENTLY OR REMOTELY FROM ITS PARENT UNIT FOR PROLONGED
PERIODS OF TIME.
(3) ONE PER PLATOON-SIZED ORGANIZATION WHEN NORMAL DUTIES
INCLUDE THE HANDLING OF NUCLEAR AMMUNITION OR OTHER RADIATION
SOURCES.
(4) ONE PER HEADQUARTERS ELEMENT OR CELLULAR UNIT.
(5) FOUR PER AREA NBC SCHOOL.
(6) ONE PER TRADOC SERVICE SCHOOL FOR RESIDENT TRAINING.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: THE CP-696/PDR-75 IS POWERED BY A
24-V DC SOURCE, AND CAN BE SUPPLIED POWER FROM A 12/24-V DC
LITHIUM BATTERY, BA-5590/U OR A 24-V DC VEHICULAR
BATTERY.

G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
(1) OPERATOR:
(A) CREW SIZE/MOS: MOS 54B AND GENERAL-PURPOSE
USER.
(B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): TRAINING
OF OPERATOR TASKS WILL BE CONDUCTED BY THE UNIT CHEMICAL
OPERATIONS SPECIALIST.
(2) MAINTAINER:
(A) UNIT-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 31V AND 43M.
(B) IDS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 43M.
(C) IGS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 35H.
H. SPECIAL NOTES: THE AN/PDR-75 RADIAC SET IS NOT A
REPLACEMENT FOR THE AN/PDR-27 RADIAC SET (Q19339). LIN Q19339
WAS USED AS A RETRIEVAL PARAMETER DURING THE INITIAL BOIP
PROCESS.
