Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: THE CAVALRY FIGHTING VEHICLE (CFV) IS A
FULL-TRACKED, LIGHTLY ARMORED, FIGHTING VEHICLE. THE PRIMARY
ARMAMENT ON THE CFV IS THE 25MM, M242, AUTOMATIC GUN. THE
VEHICLE ALSO MOUNTS A TWO-TUBED, TOW MISSILE SYSTEM AND A 7.62MM,
M240C, COAX MACHINEGUN. THE CFV IS THE SAME VEHICLE AS THE M2
INFANTRY FIGHTING VEHICLE (IFV), EXCEPT FOR MINOR INTERNAL
DIFFERENCES THAT OPTIMIZE THE CFV FOR ITS MISSION.
B. CAPABILITIES: THE CAVALRY FIGHTING VEHICLE PROVIDES
CROSS-COUNTRY MOBILITY, VEHICULAR-MOUNTED FIREPOWER, MOBILE
COMMUNICATIONS CAPABILITY, AND PROTECTION FOR THE ARMORED CAVALRY
SCOUT UNITS.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE CFV WILL BE USED TO PERFORM
RECONNAISSANCE FOR THE SCOUT ELEMENTS OF ARMORED CAVALRY PLATOONS
AND SCOUT PLATOONS. IT PROVIDES THE CAPABILITY TO OBSERVE AND
REPORT INFORMATION CONCERNING ENEMY AND TERRAIN DURING ALL
WEATHER AND VISIBILITY CONDITIONS IN ANY CLIMATIC ZONE.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE:
(1) ONE-FOR-ONE REPLACEMENT OF THE M113 IN SCOUT AND
ARMORED CAVALRY UNITS.
(2) SIX CFV'S WILL REPLACE FOUR M113'S AND THREE ITV'S IN
SCOUT ELEMENTS OF TANK AND MECH INFANTRY BNS.
(3) FINAL REPLACEMENT RATIOS MAY CHANGE, PENDING APPROVAL
OF COEA/CTEA.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: NONE.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: AIR, C141 OR C5. GROUND,
RAILWAY, 40-TON FLAT OR TRACTOR TRAILER MINIMUM OF 30 TONS.
G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
(1) OPERATOR:
(A) CREW SIZE/MOS: NORMALLY EMPLOYED WITH A CREW OF
FIVE: A SPECIALTY CODE "12C" PLT LDR, A PLT SGT, A SQD LDR, OR A
SEC LDR MOS 19D; A 19D GUNNER; A 19D DRIVER; AND TWO 19D
SCOUTS.
(B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): PERSONNEL
QUALIFIED IN THE M113 WILL REQUIRE CFV TRANSITION TRAINING AND
AWARDED 3X (OFFICER) OR D3 (ENLISTED) ASI.
(2) MAINTAINERS:
(A) UNIT-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 29G, 29S, 31V, 44B,
45T, 52C, 63B, 63T, AND 76Y.
(B) IDS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 27E W/ASI D3, 29E,
29S, 31V, 35H, 39E, 41C, 43M, 44B, 45B, 45K, 52C, 63G, 63H, AND
63W.
(C) IGS-LEVEL MAINTENANCE: MOS 29E, 29S W/ASI X9,
39B, 41C, 43M, 44B, 44E, 45B, 63G, 63H, AND 63W.
H. SPECIAL NOTES:
(1) THE AMMO BASIC LOAD FOR EACH CFV IS: 25MM - 1,500
RDS ON BOARD, 500 RDS BULKLOADED; 7.62MM (COAX MG) - 4,400
ROUNDS ON BOARD, 1,070 RDS BULKLOADED; 7.62MM (M60) - 3,200 RDS
ON BOARD, 1,600 RDS BULKLOADED; 5.56MM (M16) - 1,440 RDS ON
BOARD, 720 RDS BULKLOADED; TOW - 12 RDS ON BOARD, 8 RDS
BULKLOADED; LAW - 3 RDS ON BOARD.
(2) BULKLOADED AMMO IS PALLETIZED WHEN RECEIVED FROM THE
ASP/ATP AREA, AS FOLLOWS: 25MM - 2,000 RDS; 7.62MM - 38,400 RDS;
TOW - 12 RDS.
(3) THE 8-TON GOER OR THE HEMTT WILL ACCOMMODATE FOUR
PALLETS OF EACH TYPE OF AMMO. THE 5-TON CARGO TRUCK WILL
ACCOMMODATE THREE PALLETS OF EACH TYPE OF AMMO AND THE 1 1/2-TON
TRAILER WILL ACCOMMODATE ONE PALLET OF EACH TYPE OF AMMO.
(4) THE ADDITIONAL TRUCK REQUIREMENTS INCLUDED IN THIS
BOIP ARE BASED ON THE ADDITIONAL AMMO REQUIREMENTS FOR THE 25MM
MG, 7.62MM COAX MG, AND THE TOW MISSILES.
