THE AN/TPQ-36(V)7 SYSTEM CONSISTS OF ONE ANTENNA-TRANCEIVER GROUP
(ATG) MOUNTED ON A M116A2 TRAILER, ONE S250 SHELTERED OPERATIONS
CONTROL GROUP (OCG), ONE M116A2 TRAILER CHASSIS TO MOUNT THE POWER
SOURCE, AND ONE M116A2 TRAILER CHASSIS WITH SPECIAL CARGO BED. THE
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION REQUIRES TWO HEAVY HMMWVs, ONE TO MOUNT THE OCG
AND PULL THE ATG AND ONE TO TRANSPORT A GENERATOR AND PULL THE
MOUNTED GENERATOR. ADDITIONALLY, A M1038 HMMWV SUPPORT VEHICLE IS
REQUIRED TO PULL THE M116A2 TRAILER WITH THE SPECIAL CARGO BED.
B. CAPABILITIES: USING PROJECTILE TRACKING, IT DETERMINES A
HOSTILE WEAPON'S LOCATION AND CAN PROVIDE PROJECTILE'S IMPACT POINT
QUICKLY AND ACCURATELY, ENABLING FRIENDLY WEAPONS TO ADJUST AND
ATTACK THE ENEMY EFFECTIVELY. IT CAN DETERMINE ENEMY LOCATION FROM
THE SIGNATURE OF A SINGLE ROUND FIRED OR LOCATE MULTIPLE WEAPONS
FIRING SIMULTANEOUSLY. IT USES A COMBINATION OF RADAR AND COMPUTER
CONTROLLED TECHNIQUES TO DETECT, VERIFY, AND TRACK PROJECTILES IN
FLIGHT, EXTRAPOLATE DATA ALLOWING QUICK AND ACCURATE COUNTERFIRE.
THE MINIMUM RANGE OF THE AN/TPQ-36(V)7 IS 750 METERS AND THE MAXIMUM
RANGE IS 24 KILOMETERS. THE AN/TPQ-36(V)7 CAN BE EMPLACED AND READY
FOR OPERATION WITHIN 15 MINUTES AND MARCH ORDERED WITHIN 9 MINUTES.
A MODULAR AZIMUTH POSITIONING SYSTEM (MAPS) AUGMENTS THE CAPABILITY
FOR SURVEY.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE AN/TPQ-36(V)7 RADAR SET IS HIGHLY MOBILE AND
CAN BE DEPLOYED IN FORWARD COMBAT ZONES.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE: ONE PER DIRECT SUPPORT BATTALION MORTAR
LOCATING RADAR SECTION (HHS OR HHB) IN A SIB, LID, ABN DIV OR AASLT
DIV.
ONE PER TARGET ACQUISITION BATTERY WLRS IN A HEAVY DIV.
