Basis of Issue Plan - BOIP
A. DESCRIPTION: THE G/VLLD CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING
COMPONENTS: A LASER, DESIGNATOR/RANGEFINDER, A TRACKING UNIT,
NIGHT SIGHT BRACKET, A PEDESTAL MOUNT FOR M113 VEHICLE
APPLICATION, A TRIPOD FOR STURDY GROUND MOUNTING. IT CAN ALSO BE
MOUNTED ON THE M981 FISTV HAMMERHEAD, A VEHICLE POWER CABLE AND
FIVE BATTERIES. IN THE GROUND MODE, THE G/VLLD CAN BE BROKEN
INTO TWO PACKAGES AND TRANSPORTED BY TWO SOLDIERS FOR LIMITED
DISTANCES. THE TOTAL SYSTEM WEIGHT IS APPROXIMATLY 66.7 LBS
(LESS THE AN/TAS-4 NIGHT SIGHT).
B. CAPABILITIES: THE TARGET DESIGNATOR WILL BE CAPABLE OF
DESIGNATING STATIONARY AND MOVING VEHICULAR TARGETS FOR TERMINAL
HOMING MUNITIONS.
C. EMPLOYMENT: THE SET WILL BE USED BY SELECTED ARTILLERY
UNITS. TARGET DESIGNATION WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED FROM OBSERVATION
POSTS OR STATIONARY VEHICLES IN THE CASE OF MOUNTED OBSERVERS.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE: ONE DEVICE IS REQUIRED PER COLT (ALL
UNITS). ONE REQUIRED PER ARMOR FIST, INFANTRY FIST,
MECHANIZED INFANTRY FIST, CAVALRY TROOP FIST,
TANK FIST, AND ACR FIST. FIST OF LID, ABN, AND AASLT
UNITS EXCLUDED. ONE NIGHT SIGHT IS REQUIRED PER G/VLLD.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: THE G/VLLD IS POWERED BY 24 V DC
VEHICULAR POWER OR ONE 24 V DC NICAD OR TIME USE LITHUIM
BATTERIES.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: THE GROUND/VEHICULAR LASER
LOCATOR DESIGNATOR (G/VLLD) IS TRANSPORTED BY A HOST SECTION
VEHICLE.
G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
