A. DESCRIPTION: THE M163A2 PIVADS IS A MODIFIED M163A1
PIVADS WITH AN IMPROVED FIRE CONTROL SUBSYSTEM. THE IMPROVEMENT
IS OBTAINED BY REPLACING THE DISTURBED RETICLE SIGHT WITH A
DIRECTOR RETICLE SIGHT, A SIGHT CURRENT GENERATOR WITH A DIGITAL
PROCESSOR, AND THE AZIMUTH DRIVE ASSEMBLY WITH A HARMONIC DRIVE.
IT ALSO WILL HAVE AN OS BITE IMPLEMENTED WITHIN THE SYSTEM'S
ELECTRONICS.
B. CAPABILITIES: THE PIVADS WILL BE A SHORT RANGE AIR
DEFENSE GUN THAT CAN PROTECT FORWARD AREA COMBAT ELEMENTS AND
REAR AREA CRITICAL ASSETS. IT WILL ALSO PROTECT AGAINST LIGHT
ARMORED GROUND TARGETS.
C. EMPLOYMENT: PRIMARILY AN AIR DEFENSE GUN, WITH A
SECONDARY MISSILE ROLE OF GROUND SUPPORT. ORGANIZATION
UTILIZATION OF SP PIVADS WILL BE HEAVY DIVISION (MECH, ARMOR) ADA
BATTALIONS.
D. BASIS OF ISSUE: ONE-FOR-ONE REPLACEMENT FOR (12) J96694
IN SPECIFIED GUN ADA BTRY VULCAN (SP). ONE PER VULCAN SQUAD.
E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: 1.5 KW.
F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: TRANSPORTED BY HIGHWAY
TRANSPORTERS, RAIL (MEET BERNE TUNNEL REQUIREMENTS) AND FIXED
WING AIRCRAFT IN THE SUBSEQUENT OPERATIONS PHASE OF AIRBORNE
OPERATIONS AND SHIPS.
G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS:
(1) OPERATOR:
(A) CREW SIZE/MOS: THREE PER SQUAD/MOS 16R.
(B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (MOS/GENERAL): TIME
REQUIRED TO TRAIN PIVADS OPERATORS/MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL WILL
REMAIN THE SAME AS FOR VADS.
(2) MAINTAINERS:
(A) UNIT MAINTENANCE: MOS 24M, 31V, AND 63Y.
(B) IDS/IGS MAINTENANCE: MOS 27F, 41C, 45L, 52D,
63G, AND 63H.
