AN/TRQ-35 High Frequency Radio Chirpsounder
Description. The TRQ-35 Chirpsounder is used for frequency management of high
frequency (HF) radio circuits by determining which frequencies will propagate best, are
not being used, or have low noise. It lets the Frequency Manager know which
frequencies provide the best path between specific locations on a real-time basis.
The transmitter is placed at one end of an HF circuit and transmits a carrier wave signal
which is swept upward in frequency from 2 to 30 MHz in 4 minutes. The receiver is
placed at the other end of the circuit. When properly synchronized, the receiver is
capable of receiving all of the radio energy emitted by the transmitter that ionospheric
propagation permits. One receiver can be synchronized with up to three transmitters.
