LIN:C20831
GENERAL:
The AN/ALQ-156(V)1 Missile Approach Detector is an airborne radar system which provides infrared homing protection to the aircraft by detecting the approach of anti-aircraft missiles. Upon detection of an on-coming missile, the missile detector automatically initiates a signal which triggers the M-130 General Purpose Dispenser System. The dispenser system then releases a flare to decoy the infrared missile(s) away from the aircraft. This system has been transitioned to Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM). The CECOM point of contact is Mr. Ira Canty, DSN 992-2550.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
The AN/ALQ-156(V)1 Missile Approach Detector consists of a receiver/transmitter (RT), a control indicator and two identical blade antennas. The RT is equipped with a built-in-test capability for the system. The total system weight is 49.5 pounds.
THREAT COVERAGE:
The AN/ALQ-156(V)1 Missile Approach Detector and M-130 Dispenser with flares are designed to provide protection against present and near-term infrared homing missile threats.
AIRCRAFT APPLICABILITY:
CH-47D

GENERAL:
The AN/ALQ-156(V)2 Missile Approach Detector is an airborne radar system which provides infrared homing protection to the aircraft by detecting the approach of anti-aircraft missiles.
The AN/ALQ-156(V)2 Missile Approach Detector consists of a receiver/transmitter (RT), a control indicator and four identical circular horn antennas. The RT is equipped with a built-in-test capability for the system. The total system weight is 55.8 pounds.
THREAT COVERAGE:
The AN/ALQ-156(V)2 Missile Approach Detector and M-130 Dispenser with flares are designed to provide protection against present and near-term infrared homing missile threats.

GENERAL:
The AN/ALQ-156(V)3 Missile Approach Detector is an airborne radar system which provides infrared homing protection to the aircraft by detecting the approach of anti-aircraft missiles.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS::
The AN/ALQ-156(V)3 Missile Approach Detector consists of a receiver/transmitter (RT), a control indicator and four identical planar slot antennas. The RT is equipped with a built-in-test capability for the system. The total system weight is 63.8 pounds.
THREAT COVERAGE:
The AN/ALQ-156(V)3 Missile Approach Detector and M-130 Dispenser with flares are designed to provide protection against present and near-term infrared homing missile threats.

GENERAL:
The M-130 General Purpose Dispenser dispenses flare decoys. The system can be operated manually or automatically cued by the AN/ALQ-156(V) missile detector. The flare decoy, when properly dispensed, provides protection against infrared (IR) homing missiles. This system has been transitioned to Armament and Chemical Acquisition and Logistics Activity (ACALA). The ACALA point of contact is Ms. Brenda Katz, DSN 793-3758.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
The M-130 Dispenser consists of a dispenser assembly, payload module assembly, electronics module and dispenser control panel. The system is designed to dispense 30 M206 flare decoys (NSN 1370-01-048-2138) from helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. The capability to dispense both flare and chaff decoys can be achieved by adding a second dispenser assembly and payload module assembly to the aircraft. The total system weight is 28 pounds.
THREAT COVERAGE:
When dispensing flare decoys, the M-130 and AN/ALQ-156 combination provides for the reduction or elimination of the enemy's ability to hit and destroy the aircraft by the use of IR homing missiles.
AIRCRAFT APPLICABILITY:
Flare only: | CH-47D |
Flare and chaff: | EH-60A, OV-1D, RV-1D, RC-12, MH-47E |
SPECIAL TEST EQUIPMENT:
