GENERAL:
The A2C2S is a UH-60 based command and control system that will serve as a Corps, Division or Maneuver Brigade Commander's airborne Tactical Command Post (TACCP). The system is being developed to enhance the battle command group's ability to effectively perform combat unit operations and serve as a force multiplier. The system will provide situational awareness information necessary to monitor mission execution and to adjust operations to the ever-changing battlefield environment. The A2C2S will allow a battle command group to perform three major operational functions: (1) mission planning, (2) mission execution and (3) mission support. It is envisioned that the battle command group will consist of a commander, intelligence officer, operations officer, fire support officer and another officer or civil agency representative, as needed.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS::
The A2C2S will provide a centralized work area with five workstations and a large, centralized communications flat panel display for situational awareness information. The battle command group's primary tools used to perform their duties will be independent workstations. These input/output devices will be able to interoperate using the Local Area Network (LAN). In addition to independent operation, the workstations will be able to exchange files, access databases and share applications programs through the files server which controls the LAN and communications with the outside world via a multi-function, multi-mode communications terminal. Each workstation will be tied via an intercom system to all other workstations. The workstations will also be able to send and receive digital messages and wideband data to and from other elements across the battlefield. There will be a commander's function, intelligence function, fire support function, logistics function and communication function accessible from each workstation.

GENERAL:
The AMPS is a graphical user interface based mission planning tool that automates aviation mission planning tasks. At the Company/Troop level, AMPS is used to generate mission data for use in either hard copy (kneecards) or electronic format [data upload to the aircraft via the Data Transfer Unit (DTU)]. AMPS can greatly reduce errors, time, and workload currently associated with pre-mission planning and aircraft initialization tasks. As a subordinate system of the Maneuver Control System, at the Aviation Battalion and Brigade levels, AMPS is integrated to provide functionality to assist in improving battlefield synchronization/intelligence in the tactical command and control arena. This integration is via a local area network (LAN) within the Aviation Tactical Operations Center (AVTOC) and functionally as software within the Army Airborne Command and Control System (A2C2S). The integration provides both systems with the ability to access, use, and pass along critical aviation related mission information.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
The AMPS is designated the AN/TYQ-77A(V)1. The platform is procured as Army standard equipment through the Project Manager, Common Hardware/Software and will include a DTU for transferring mission data to the aircraft. The data cartridge shown on the opposite page is part of the aircraft's equipment. The computer unit weight in transit cases is 106 pounds. There is no special test equipment for AMPS.
