Notes:
Advances in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technologies now make development and evaluation of highly compact inlet ducts possible. Compact inlet lengths on the order of 3-4 engine face diameters are achievable, which reduce the volume required in a given aircraft and lowers the empty weight. CFD technologies allow the engineer to analyze local flow characteristics (i.e., separation regions, etc.) within the duct quickly and provide the most compact design possible by maximizing duct curvature, while maintaining duct performance.
