• Modified Surf Limits (MSL) - the maximum Modified Surf Index for landing craft that landings should be attempted for routine operations.

• The MSI is compared to the MSL of each landing craft or amphibious vehicle being considered for ship to shore operations.

• If the MSI exceeds the MSL of the craft, the landing is not feasible without increasing the casualty rate.
