- DEPARTS TSS, CSE 122/SPD 25 - NAV TRACK LAID OUT IN NEARLY DIRECT LINE FROM ONE FATHOM BANK TSS TO SINGAPORE TSS USING SUPERSEDED CHART THAT DOES NOT SHOW RACON LIGHT 1 NM NORTH OF INTENDED TRACK
- NAV DETAIL SECURED - NO RADAR OR VISUAL FIXES OBTAINED - GPS SOLE MEANS OF DETERMINING SHIP’S POSITION
Notes:
MORE CURRENT CHART SHOWS NAVIGABLE WATER MORE CLEARLY, INDICATES CHANGES IN RANGES, LOCATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHTS. THERE IS A TRAFFIC ADVISORY SYSTEM IN EFFECT IN THE STRAITS.
IT IS NOT UNUSUAL TO NAVIGATE ON GPS ALONE IN PARTS OF THE STRAIT; HOWEVER, HAD INGERSOLL BEEN USING THE PROPER CHART THE NAVIGATOR WOULD HAVE DETERMINED THEIR POSITION AS 3000 YDS NORTH OF THEIR INTENDED TRACK BY VISUAL MEANS.
ALTHOUGH THE NAV DETAIL IS SECURED A MODIFIED DETAIL IS SET AND THE NAVIGATOR IS ON THE BRIDGE.
