TO CONDUCT WORLD-WIDE DEPLOYMENTS AND CONDUCT SELF-SUSTAINING OPERATIONS TO PROTECT US NATIONAL INTERESTS. 2. ASSIGNMENT. TO ARMY SERVICE COMPONENT COMMAND, CORPS OR JOINT TASK FORCE. 3. CAPABILITIES. A. AT LEVEL 1, THIS UNIT: (1) OPERATES OVER A WIDE FRONTAGE IN ALL TYPES OF TERRAIN, LOCATES AND MAINTAINS CONTACT WITH THE ENEMY OR FRIENDLY FORCES. (2) RESPONDS IMMEDIATELY AND MANEUVERS RAPIDLY TO INFLUENCE THE TEMPO AND FREQUENCY OF ENGAGEMENT. (3) PROVIDES COMBAT ELEMENTS FOR ECONOMY OF FORCE ROLES, RETROGRADE, SCREENING, REAR AREA SECURITY, ANTIAIRBORNE AND ANTIGUERRILLA OPERATIONS, RAIDS, AND EXPLOITATION. (4) RECYCLES COMBAT FORCES FOR IMMEDIATE USE IN OTHER AREAS BY VERTICAL ENTRY INTO AND RECOVERY OF UNITS FROM THE BATTLEFIELD. (5) CAN ACT AS A HIGHLY RESPONSIVE MOBILE RESERVE FORCE. (6) OCCUPY AREAS OR REINFORCE FRIENDLY OR ALLIED UNITS BEYOND THE IMMEDIATE REACH OF GROUND FORCES. B. THE COLUMNS UNDER LEVELS 2 AND 3 ADAPT THIS TABLE FOR REDUCED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES IN DECREMENTS OF 10%, FROM APPROXIMATELY 90% FOR LEVEL 2 TO APPROXIMATELY 80% FOR LEVEL 3. C. THIS UNIT IS NOT ADAPTABLE TO TYPE B ORGANIZATION. D. THE COLUMNS DESIGNATED BY LEVELS 1 THROUGH 3 ARE DESIGNED TO RELATE TO THE CATEGORIES ESTABLISHED IN AR 220-1, UNIT STATUS REPORTING. E. INDIVIDUALS OF THIS ORGANIZATION, EXCEPT MEDICAL PERSONNEL AND THE CHAPLAIN CAN ASSIST IN COORDINATED DEFENSE OF THE UNIT'S AREA OR INSTALLATION. F. THIS UNIT IS DEPENDENT UPON: (1) THE AVAILABILITY OF TRANSPORTATION ASSETS FOR SUPPLEMENTAL TRANSPORTATION. (2) CORPS OR JOINT TASK FORCE FOR SUPPLEMENTAL TRANSPORTATION. G. THIS UNIT HAS THE FOLLOWING LIMITATIONS: (1) VULNERABILITY TO ENEMY AIR ACTION. THIS VULNERABILITY IS REDUCED TO THE EXTENT THAT FRIENDLY FORCES MAINTAIN LOCAL AIR SUPERIORITY DURING AIR ASSAULT OPERATIONS. (2) VULNERABILITY TO ATTACK BY LARGE ARMORED OR MECHANIZED FORCES. (3) VULNERABILITY OF HELICOPTERS TO NUCLEAR ATTACK. (4) THE GROUND MOBILITY OF THIS UNIT IS DEGRADED TO THE EXTENT THAT A MINIMUM NUMBER OF GROUND VEHICLES IS ALLOCATED TO THE COMPONENT TABLES. THIS IN TURN DEGRADES UNIT MOBILITY, COMBAT SUPPORT AND COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT ACTIVITIES UNDERFLYABLE OR MARGINAL WEATHER CONDITIONS. 4. BASIS OF ALLOCATION. ONE PER CORPS OR JOINT TASK FORCE IN CONFORMITY WITH OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS. 5. CATEGORY.
