   1.  MISSION.  TO CLOSE WITH AND DESTROY ENEMY FORCES USING
   FIRE, MANEUVER, AND SHOCK EFFECT.

   2.  ASSIGNMENT.  TO HEAVY DIVISION, TOE 87000L, AND THE
   HEAVY SEPARATE BRIGADE, TOE 87100L.

   3.  CAPABILITIES.

       A.  AT LEVEL 1, THIS UNIT:

           (1)  CONDUCTS OPERATIONS REQUIRING A HIGH DEGREE OF
   FIREPOWER, MOBILITY, ARMOR PROTECTION, AND SHOCK EFFECT.

           (2)  ATTACKS OR DEFENDS UNDER HOSTILE FIRE AND
   DURING LIMITED VISIBILITY CONDITIONS.

           (3)  DESTROYS ENEMY MOUNTED AND DISMOUNTED FORCES.

           (4)  COMMANDS, CONTROLS, AND MANEUVERS TANK AND
   MECHANIZED INFANTRY THROUGH CROSS-ATTACHMENT WITH
   MECHANIZED INFANTRY BATTALIONS TO ENGAGE THE ENEMY IN THE
   CONDUCT OF MOBILE WARFARE.

           (5)  PROVIDES THE MOBILITY, ARMOR PROTECTION,
   FIREPOWER, AND FLEXIBLE COMMUNICATIONS TO SUCCESSFULLY
   EXPLOIT THE INTEGRATED USE OF INDIRECT FIRES.

       B.  THE COLUMNS UNDER LEVELS 2 AND 3 ADAPT THIS TABLE
   FOR REDUCED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES IN DECREMENTS OF 10%,
   FROM APPROXIMATELY 90% FOR LEVEL 2 TO APPROXIMATELY 80%
   FOR LEVEL 3.

       C.  THIS UNIT IS NOT ADAPTABLE TO TYPE B ORGANIZATION.

       D.  THE COLUMNS DESIGNATED BY LEVEL 1 THROUGH 3 ARE
   DESIGNED TO RELATE TO THE CATEGORIES ESTABLISHED IN AR
   220-1, UNIT STATUS REPORTING.

       E.  INDIVIDUALS OF THIS ORGANIZATION, EXCEPT MEDICAL
   PERSONNEL AND THE CHAPLAIN, CAN ENGAGE IN THE COORDINATED
   DEFENSE OF THE UNIT'S AREA OR INSTALLATION.

       F.  THIS UNIT IS CAPABLE OF PERFORMING UNIT MAINTENANCE
   ON ORGANIC EQUIPMENT.

       G.  THIS UNIT IS DEPENDENT UPON:

           (1)  APPROPRIATE ELEMENTS OF THE DIVISION OR CORPS
   FOR LEGAL, FINANCE, AND PERSONNEL AND ADMINISTRATION
   SUPPORT.

           (2)  A US AIR FORCE TACTICAL AIR CONTROL PARTY FOR
   DIRECTING TACTICAL AIR SUPPORT.

           (3)  SUPPORTING ARTILLERY BATTALION FOR A FIRE
   SUPPORT SECTION AND COMPANY FIRE SUPPORT TEAMS (FIST) FOR
   OBSERVATION AND COORDINATION OF FIRE SUPPORT.

   4.  BASIS OF ALLOCATION.  TO THE FOLLOWING IN CONFORMITY
   WITH MISSION REQUIREMENTS AS DETERMINED BY THE THEATER
   COMMANDER AND THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY:

       A.  HEAVY DIVISION, TOE 87000L0.

       B.  SEPARATE BRIGADE, TOE 87100L0.

   5.  CATEGORY.  THIS UNIT IS DESIGNATED A CATEGORY I UNIT.
