TO INCREASE THE COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CORPS BY ACCOMPLISHING MOBILITY, COUNTERMOBILITY, SURVIVABILITY, AND SUSTAINMENT ENGINEERING TASKS. B. TO REINFORCE INFANTRY DIVISIONAL ENGINEER UNITS WHEN REQUIRED. C. REORGANIZE INTO INFANTRY UNITS AND FIGHT AS INFANTRY WHEN REQUIRED. D. TO PARTICIPATE IN JOINT MILITARY OPERATIONS WHEN REQUIRED. 2. ASSIGNMENT. TO A CORPS, NORMALLY ATTACHED TO AN ENGINEER BRIGADE OR ENGINEER GROUP. 3. CAPABILITIES. A. AT LEVEL 1, THIS UNIT: (1) PROVIDES COMMAND, CONTROL AND STAFF SUPERVISION FOR ASSIGNED AND ATTACHED UNITS. (2) PROVIDES ENGINEER SUPPORT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF OBSTACLES AND DEFENSIVE POSITIONS. (3) PROVIDES ENGINEER SUPPORT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF OBSTACLES AND DEFENSIVE POSITIONS. (4) PROVIDES ENGINEER SUPPORT IN ASSAULT RIVER CROSSING OPERATIONS. (5) PERFORMS SUSTAINMENT ENGINEERING TASKS SUCH AS: CONSTRUCTION, REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF LANDING STRIPS, HELIPORTS, COMMAND POSTS, LINES OF COMMUNICATION AND TACTICAL ROUTES, CULVERTS, FORDS, SUPPLY INSTALLATIONS, BUILDINGS, STRUCTURES, AND OTHER HORIZONTAL CONSTRUCTION RELATED TASKS AS REQUIRED. (6) PROVIDES TECHNICAL ADVICE, ASSISTANCE AND TRAINING IN MINE WARFARE, FIELD FORTIFICATION, CAMOUFLAGE, DEMOLITION AND ENGINEER RECONNAISSANCE TECHNIQUES. (7) PROVIDES ENGINEER INFORMATION AND DEVELOPS ENGINEER INTELLIGENCE. (8) THIS UNIT CAN REORGANIZE AS INFANTRY, PROVIDED THE UNIT HAS RECEIVED THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF COMBAT ASSETS NORMALLY ASSOCIATED WITH AN INFANTRY BATTALION. (9) PROVIDES COMBAT ENGINEER SUPPORT FOR AN INDEPENDENT TASK FORCE OR A JOINT MILITARY OPERATION, WHEN REQUIRED. (10) PARTICIPATES IN REAR AREA OPERATIONS WHEN REQUIRED. B. THE COLUMNS UNDER LEVELS 2 AND 3 ADAPT THE TABLE FOR REDUCED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES IN DECREMENTS OF 10% FROM APPROXIMATELY 90% FOR LEVEL 2 TO APPROXIMATELY 80% FOR LEVEL 3. C. THIS UNIT IS NOT ADAPTABLE TO TYPE B ORGANIZATION. D. THE COLUMNS DESIGNATED BY LEVELS 1 THROUGH 3 ARE DESIGNED TO RELATE TO THE CATEGORIES ESTABLISHED IN AR 220-1, UNIT STATUS REPORTING. E. INDIVIDUALS OF THIS ORGANIZATION, EXCEPT MEDICAL PERSONNEL AND THE CHAPLAIN, CAN ENGAGE IN THE COORDINATED DEFENSE OF THE UNIT'S AREA OR INSTALLATION. F. THIS UNIT PERFORMS UNIT MAINTENANCE ON ORGANIC EQUIPMENT. G. DEPENDENCIES. THIS UNIT IS DEPENDENT UPON: (1) APPROPRIATE ELEMENTS OF THE CORPS OR THEATER ARMY FOR HEALTH SERVICES, LEGAL, FINANCE, AND PERSONNEL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES. (2) ENGINEER BRIDGE UNITS (05493L) FOR TACTICAL BRIDGING EQUIPMENT. (3) ENGINEER COMBAT SUPPORT EQUIPMENT COMPANY (05493L) FOR AUGMENTATION WITH EQUIPMENT TO MOVE EARTH AND MAINTAIN HORIZONTAL SURFACES, SUCH AS ROADS AND AIRSTRIPS. 4. BASIS OF ALLOCATION: .5 PER HEAVY DIVISION AND AIRBORNE DIVISION AND 1.5 PER EACH LIGHT AND AA DIVISION. 5. CATEGORY: THIS UNIT IS DESIGNATED A CATEGORY I UNIT.
