                                           DESIGNATION:  ----- ENGINEER BATTALION (AIRBORNE)
   1.  MISSION.  A.  TO INCREASE THE COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS OF
   THE AIRBORNE DIVISION BY ACCOMPLISHING MOBILITY,
   COUNTERMOBILITY, SURVIVABILITY MISSIONS.

       B.  TO PERFORM AIRBORNE INFANTRY COMBAT MISSIONS WHEN
   REQUIRED.

   2.  ASSIGNMENT.  ORGANIC TO AIRBORNE DIVISION, TOE
   57000L000.

   3.  CAPABILITIES.  A.  AT LEVEL 1, THIS UNIT:

       (1)  PROVIDES ADVICE TO THE DIVISION COMMANDER, HIS
   STAFF, AND OTHER COMMANDERS AND THEIR STAFFS ON ENGINEER
   CAPABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY FOR THE EFFECTIVE
   PLANNING AND EXECUTION OF ENGINEER COMBAT MISSIONS IN
   DIVISION OPERATIONS.

       (2)  PLANS, SUPERVISES, AND COORDINATES ACTIVITIES OF
   ASSIGNED, ATTACHED, AND SUPPORTING ENGINEER UNITS ENGAGED
   IN MOBILITY/COUNTERMOBILITY/SURVIVABILITY MISSIONS AND
   GENERAL ENGINEERING TASKS.

       (3)  PREPARES AND MAINTAINS EXPEDIENT COMBAT ROUTES IN
   THE FORWARD BATTLE AREA TO INCLUDE INGRESS AND EGRESS TO
   BLOCKING POSITIONS AND RIVER CROSSING SITES AND EXPEDIENT
   REPAIR OF ESSENTIAL BRIDGES, FORDS, AND CULVERTS.

       (4)  ASSISTS IN THE ASSAULT OF FORTIFIED POSITIONS.

       (5)  PERFORMS OBSTACLE AND MINEFIELD BREACH
   OPERATIONS.

       (6)  CONDUCTS ENGINEER RECONNAISSANCE AND PROVIDES
   ENGINEER INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION FOR THE DIVISION.

       (7)  PROVIDES FIELD ENGINEERING ADVICE TO ALL
   DIVISIONAL ELEMENTS AND PROVIDES ASSISTANCE AND EQUIPMENT
   SUPPORT TO MANEUVER UNITS IN PREPARATION OF STRONG POINTS
   AND FIGHTING POSITIONS FOR WEAPON SYSTEMS WHEN REQUIRED.

       (8)  PLANS FOR AND ASSISTS IN THE EMPLACEMENT OF
   MINES.

       (9)  CREATES OTHER OBSTACLES TO DEGRADE ENEMY MOBILITY
   INCLUDING BERMS, DITCHES, ABATIS AND WIRE ENTANGLEMENTS.

       (10)  EXECUTES DEMOLITION TARGETS SUCH AS DESTRUCTION
   OF BRIDGES AND CRATERING OF ROADS, RAILROADS, ABATIS, AND
   AIRFIELD RUNWAYS.

       (11)  PROVIDES UNIT LEVEL HEALTH SERVICES SUPPORT,
   EXCEPT EVACUATION.

       B.  THE COLUMNS UNDER LEVELS 2 AND 3 ADAPT THIS TABLE
   FOR REDUCED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES IN DECREMENTS OF 10%,
   FROM APPROXIMATELY 90% FOR LEVEL 2 TO APPROXIMATELY 80%
   FOR LEVEL 3.

       C.  THIS UNIT IS NOT ADAPTABLE TO TYPE B ORGANIZATION.

       D.  THE COLUMNS DESIGNATED BY LEVEL 1 THROUGH 3 ARE
   DESIGNED TO RELATE TO THE CATEGORIES ESTABLISHED IN AR
   220-1, UNIT STATUS REPORTING.

       E.  INDIVIDUALS OF THIS ORGANIZATION, EXCEPT MEDICAL
   PERSONNEL AND THE CHAPLAIN, CAN ASSIST IN COORDINATED
   DEFENSE OF THE UNIT'S AREA OR INSTALLATION.

       F.  THIS UNIT PERFORMS UNIT MAINTENANCE ON ORGANIC
   EQUIPMENT.

       G.  THIS UNIT IS DEPENDENT UPON:

       (1)  APPROPRIATE ELEMENTS OF THE DIVISION OR CORPS FOR
   LEGAL, FINANCE, PERSONNEL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, AND
   DIRECT SUPPORT MAINTENANCE.

       (2)  ENGINEER LIGHT EQUIPMENT COMPANY, AIRBORNE, TOE
   05443L100, AND ENGINEER BATTALION, COMBAT, AIRBORNE, TOE
   05445L100, FOR SUPPLEMENTAL COMBAT ENGINEER SUPPORT AND
   CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF ASSAULT LANDING STRIPS,
   LAPES ZONES, AND ROADS.

       (3)  DIVISION MEDICAL BATTALION FOR HEALTH SERVICES
   SUPPORT INCLUDING EVACUATION.

   4.  BASIS OF ALLOCATION.  ONE PER AIRBORNE DIVISION, TOE
   57.

   5.  CATEGORY.  THIS UNIT IS DESIGNATED A CATEGORY I UNIT.

   6.  MOBILITY.  FOR MOBILITY OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL
   COMPONENTS OF THIS UNIT, SEE SECTION I, GENERAL, OF THE

   PARAGRAPHS IN SECTION II OF THIS TABLE.
