3.  CAPABILITIES.

    A.  AT LEVEL 1, THIS UNIT PROVIDES:

        (1)  ATTACK HELICOPTER ELEMENTS FOR RAPID EMPLOYMENT
AS PART OF A COMBINED ARMS FORCE.

        (2)  AERIAL FIREPOWER, MOBILITY, AND SHOCK EFFECT AS
A MANEUVER ELEMENT OF THE RESPECTIVE DIVISION OR CORPS.

        (3)  AERIAL ESCORT AND SUPPRESSIVE FIRES IN SUPPORT
OF AIR ASSAULT AND OTHER TACTICAL OPERATIONS.

        (4)  MOBILE FIREPOWER TO EXPLOIT THE EFFECTS OF
ARTILLERY AND OTHER INDIRECT FIRE.

        (5)  SUPRESSION OF ENEMY AIR DEFENSES (SEAD)
OPERATIONS.

        (6)  OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE AIR COMBAT OPERATIONS.

        (7)  COORDINATION AND ADJUSTMENT OF INDIRECT FIRES.

        (8)  RECONNAISSANCE AND SECURITY OPERATIONS.

        (9)  AERIAL FIREPOWER TO DESTROY ENEMY COMMUNICATION

         (2) THIS UNIT HAS 8,582 POUNDS (794 CUBIC FEET) OF
TOE EQUIPMENT REQUIRING TRANSPORTATION.

         (3) THIS UNIT REQUIRES THAT 100 PERCENT OF ITS TOE

    b.  Purpose and authority for the preparation and revision of
this Table of Organization and Equipment (TOE).

        (1)  Cyclic review in accordance with AR 71-32.

        (2)  This review and revision applies concept changes,
updates manpower requirements criteria (MARC), and applies
incremental development procedures.

        (3)  This TOE has been prepared in accordance with the
provisions of current TOE development regulations and guidance.

        (4)  All Equipment Readiness Codes in this TOE have been
reviewed to ensure strict compliance with criteria in AR 220-1,
Unit Status Reporting.  They have also been reviewed to ensure
they are aligned at the paragraph level of detail.

        (5)  The unit MARC code is 21A.  This TOE is a combat
support unit that operates in the division area.  It is mobile and
moves.

2.  EMPLOYMENT.

    a.  This company will be assigned to an attack battalion in an
armored, mechanized, or air assault division or corps aviation
brigade.  It is normally employed as part of a combined arms force to
destroy enemy armor, mechanized, and other massed forces.  It also
may be used to provide aerial escort and suppressive fires for air
assault or other tactical operations, mobile firepower to exploit the
effects of artillery and other indirect fire, or highly mobile aerial
firepower for other tactical missions.

    b.  To facilitate training and maintenance, the attack company
is organized formally with a company headquarters and two platoons.
However, the commander task-organizes the company for combat based
on the factors of METT-T.  There is no single method of task
organization, but it is always based on pairs of AH-1 aircraft
operating together to provide mutual security.  The commander adjusts
the task organization for battlefield conditions, aircraft avail-
ability, and the need to balance required mission firepower and
internal company security.  Lead/wingman teams usually are employed
to facilitate internal security and allow greater freedom of maneuver
and employment flexibility.  The company commander commands and
controls tactical engagements from an AH-1 aircraft.

    c.  With the exception of the limited aviation unit maintenance
(AVUM) provided by the assigned crew chiefs and their basic tool
kits, this company is dependent on other units for all logistical
and personnel service support.  Accordingly, it has little or no
capability for independent operations from its parent battalion.
Does not include provisions which would restrict its application
to a single geographical area.

5.  METHODS OF OPERATIONS AND FUNCTION.

GENERAL REMARK.  The only personnel requirements listed in this
paragraph are those not covered by criteria and measurable man-
power requirements standards contained in AR 570-2 or automated
analyses related to AR 570-2.  All of the pilot positions discussed
below are operational pilots, i.e, primary cockpit seat fillers, for
the eight AH-1 aircraft.  The following discussion is provided
only to identify the basis for the special qualification
identifiers (SQIs) and additional skill identifiers (ASIs) for
these operational pilots.

    a.  Paragraph 01, Company Headquarters.

        (1)  The function of the company headquarters is to provide
command and control, and coordinate activities of the Attack Company.

        (2)  Personnel requirements not covered by regulatory

    b.  Paragraph 02, Aeroscout Platoon.

        (1)  The function of the aeroscout platoon is to provide
three AH-1 aircraft and associated flight crews for accomplishment
of aerial scout and security tasks.  (Note:  The company is organized
formally into an aeroscout platoon and an attack platoon to facil-
itate training and maintenance.  However, the commander uses the
